Layar is a free application that shows you what is around you by displaying real time digital information on top of reality though the camera of the mobile phone. By holding the phone in front of you like a camera information is displayed on top of the camera display view.

Layar will be available for the T-Mobile G1, HTC Magic and other Android phones in Android Market before July 1st 2009 and more details will be presented next week on mobile 2.0

ARhrrrr – An augmented reality shooter

Date: May 30th, 2009

Nice concept by the Augmented Environments Lab, ARhrrrr is an augmented reality shooter for mobile camera-phones. The phone provides a window into a 3d town overrun with zombies. Point the camera at a special game map to mix virtual and real world content. Their primary motivation for this AR game was to explore fast-action first-person augmented reality, where the camera controls and movement that would typically require a mouse and keyboard are handled directly by simply moving the device. Advanced tracking technology allows the player to quickly zoom in and out and view the world at steep angles, making this a highly interactive and engaging game. Finally, the Lab wanted to test tangible input mechanics, such as placing and shooting Skittles to trigger in-game events.

I like Foosball and this is the way to finally solve the problem of having only 3 balls for a Euro. The Space Foosball is a tangible tabletop implementation of the foosball game. Players can play the virtual foosball game in a simulated soccer-field with intuitive man/machine interfaces. Created by human interface designer Yunsil Heo more information on the website

Time Bomb – Interactive Graffiti

Date: May 28th, 2009

Nice Project by  digital artist Lukasz Karluk and Sydney sculptor/painter Maddi Boyd. The aim was to build an interactive graffiti painting (bombing) called “TimeBomb.” Over four days nine urban artists contributed to the TimeBomb piece: DMOTE, Ben Frost, Kid Zoom, Numskull, Roach, Creon, John Doe, Bennett and KissKiss. Painting layers upon layers of different styles, their work was documented through time-lapse photography, creating an animated film of the whole process. The final installation will feature two giant graffiti walls suspended in the museum. One wall will be the real painting, the other a projected film double. The visitors’ physical movements in the museum can then control this film, going backwards in time, revealing the now-covered layers of graffiti.

Release3D Sneak Peak

Date: May 27th, 2009

Boffswana shows a sneak peak demo video of their Augmented Reality technology in it’s standalone (desktop application) form. The application is able to push a much larger amount of detail into the scene than a Flash based version, with 30,000+ polygons. The standalone version of Releas3D allows them to produce much richer environments, as well as providing the user a version which they can use without requiring internet connectivity.

Parque

Date: May 24th, 2009

Parque is an interactive installation created by Rui Madeira it has an ecological message where the growth of a forest is determined by the amount of attention it receives. By making upwards movements with their bodies, children can create new trees or grow existing ones. If a tree is left unattended for too long it will shrink and eventually disappear.
